Background
Hailing from Kenya and now residing in the Burlington area, KeruBo is an accomplished Afro-Jazz artist, singer, and songwriter with over two decades of experience gracing stages across the globe at music festivals.
KeruBo’s musical artistry is a fusion of African Traditional Music enriched with traces of Brazilian Samba/Bossa nova, Jazz, and Blues. KeruBo's vocal repertoire encompasses the enchanting realm of African folk music and Afro jazz, effortlessly transitioning between time-honored African laments and contemporary renditions.
Her artistic tapestry has been woven with inspiration drawn from a lineage of music luminaries and songsmiths, most notably the likes of Miriam Makeba, Dorothy Masuka, and Nina Simone. These indomitable women, through their music, fearlessly championed causes and vocalized against social injustices, unburdened by the consequences.
The essence of KeruBo's melodies resonates with themes of healing, the preservation of African heritage, and the echoing of concerns of marginalized communities, particularly women and children. Her compositions stand as a poignant homage to the strength of these communities.
Furthermore, KeruBo actively contributes to the educational realm as a member of the Windows to A Multicultural World Teaching Artist Team affiliated with the Clemmons Family Farm. This involvement extends to engaging K-12 students in meaningful dialogues about social justice pertinent to African Americans and the African Diaspora. Through formal classrooms or remote learning platforms, KeruBo imparts her rich heritage, cultural essence, folk music, and captivating storytelling.
